Spring (March – May)
Rhododendrons and magnolias set the hillsides ablaze, the Paro Tshechu fills Rinpung Dzong with colour, and trekking routes such as the Druk Path open up.
Summer (June – August)
The monsoon brings lush green valleys, rice planting and far fewer visitors. Pack rain gear and enjoy the quiet.
Autumn (September – November)
Clear skies and big mountain views make this the classic season for trekking and festivals, including the Thimphu Tshechu and the Black-Necked Crane Festival in Phobjikha.
Winter (December – February)
Cold mornings, crisp blue skies and the best Himalayan panoramas from Dochula. It is the perfect time for low-altitude treks like Samtengang and Sinchula, and for watching the cranes in their winter home.
